Entry 3.....

22 June 1911 (Evening Edition)

The picture flashed in this reporter's mind-- it might have been a calm sea, it might have been a placid lake. It was, whatever else it might be, a vivid and lively scene, boaters gathered to celebrate the warmer clime. A summer event, held to welcome the warming air, to welcome the opening of the shut-tight windows and the shedding of the strangling clothes.

It should have been a most pleasant afternoon, without the need of this reporter's attention, but, events did not turn out as they should have.

As the boats drew anchor to begin the day's festivities, a set of grisly circumstances suddenly presented themselves. Halting all celebration, authorities combed through the area to determine exactly how the body of an unidentified male, age indeterminable, found itself secured to the anchor of one of the boats.

The owners of the boat in question, a respectable family by the name of Horton, were as startled as anyone when their anchor produced such a catch. It isn't unheard of to find all sorts of things hitching a ride to the water's surface as an anchor is drawn up, but a body?

Authorities are searching for answers, including the identity of the unfortunate man and any evidence that might lead to a successful conclusion of this case. Foul play is suspected, however, accidental drowning and suicide have not been ruled out.

Curator's note: This was the first day the typewriter produced more than a single entry. I had thought it may have occurred as I shifted its position in the exhibit. Rearranging the furniture, the desk the typewriter normally sat upon was placed, temporarily, in front of this antique photograph:

  8. This reads so very real, and to be penned from a prompt as well!
We hear many news reports where partially clad individuals simply wash ashore or float to the surface.
The respectable Horton's may have secrets to be later discovered!
